What you require depends on how you want to develop and run your applications

Develop your applications
You can develop and test your application by down loading a free copy of Open-jACOB. It comes with a connector to a HSQL database and it has the same design functionality as the enterprise version of jACOB. Then when your design is ready and tested you can run it on one of the databases for which a data base connector is available. Just bear in mind that currently Tarragon offers database connectors for HSQL, My SQL, SQL Server, Informix and Oracle. These are all available under the enterprise version    If you need to run your design on a different database you are advised to contact Tarragon to see if plans are at hand to provide a connector for that particular database.

Need to access databases other than HSQL during the design phase?
In that case you need to acquire a version of jACOB enterprise that includes the database(s) you need to access while developing your applications.

To run your applications
You need to have a data base connector to the database(s) that you run your application on or the database(s) that you need to access. A cluster version is only required when you run your application on more than one server
